A new session of Congress is finally convening following one of the most bitterly contested elections in modern US history. This is the first time the US House and Senate members have formally taken their seats. Nancy Pelosi of the Democratic Party is expected to remain in control of the House of Representatives. And right now, the Senate is still dominated by Republican Mitch McConnell. However, if Democrats win two special runoff elections in Georgia on 5 January, that could change.
